Volunteer Responsibilities

We need volunteers for several important tasks:

  • to pick up excess fresh produce, baked goods and meats from supermarkets and other food donors;
  • to pick fruit from property owners’ trees; and
  • to transport the collected food to our local network of pantries and other distribution organizations in South County and Pittsfield

Volunteers are needed on weekdays and Saturday early afternoons. Typically, a volunteer shift takes no more than two hours.

For fruit tree pickings, volunteers drive themselves to the site, following e-mailed directions. Berkshire Bounty provides all equipment necessary for taking fruit from the trees and tailors the size of the volunteer group to the number of trees on the property.

Our goal is to pick up food and immediately deliver it to distribution organizations. For food pick-ups and deliveries, volunteers use the Berkshire Bounty van or a volunteer’s own vehicle.  Ideally, two volunteers will carry out each pick-up and delivery. At least one of the volunteers on each shift must be able to comfortably lift boxes weighing up to 45 pounds. Volunteers also help keep track of the weight of all food picked up and delivered.

Click on the “Register to Volunteer” button on this page and fill out the form to get started – you’ll find it to be an enriching experience for you.

Berkshire Bounty is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donations to Berkshire Bounty are tax deductible.
